Blog 4: Project brainstorm 12/14/2011
For my WLE project my mentor wants me to create a shelf type thing that she will be able to use to file all of her papers in a neat and organized way. My mentor came up with the idea, because there isn't much that I could do as a project at that workplace. I am excited to do this project because it will be easy. In order to complete my project i will need the help of my mentor to tell Add Comment Blog 10: The end 12/14/2011
Final thoughts that I have about WLE is that it was a very good experience and I glad that Impact was able to offer the program. focusing more on my actual workplace, I appreeciate my mentor opening up a place for me to come and learn on Tuesdays. Even though this is not the profession I want to be I liked having time to talk to my mentor. This experience definitely taught me the importance of being organized, so that is something I will take with me in the future. When I am looking for jobs, I will try to find jobs that involve being at someone's demand 24/7. I don't have enough patience for that! Blog 9: Life at my WLE 12/12/2011
Since this blog is late, last week at my WLE I filed papers and made phone calls to different vendors to see if we could get a bid for fixing the heaters in the homes. I honestly don;t think i've improved much as a mentor because on regular day i don't really do much because my mentor is so busy. I believe i've stayed consistent through out the weeks. My mentor makes my workplace great. I can talk to her about anything and she always has something insightful to say. I really appreciate the conversations we've had. Blog 8: Professionalism 12/12/2011
I was late finding my internship, so I didn't get it until the last minute and my aunt found it for me, so I can't really explain how I got my internship. Although the most effective way to find an internship is by starting early and having multiple choices. When you talk to the person in charge, you want to make yourself sound good, so that they would want to hire you. It is always important to show up to interviews dressed nicely and if you get the job it is important to be on time, dressed professionally, and having the ability to communicate with your boss. As a result of my internship, being a professional means being able to talk to others in a professional manner, dressing appropiately, and practicing your communication skills. Blog 7: Reflection 12/12/2011
I have learned that working as a property manager is not the job for me. Although I enjoy being there with my mentor, I can't deal with a lot of tenants complaining about what they need or what is wrong with their house. My internship has taught it is very important to be organized, because if your not it makes life a lot more challenging. I am glad I got to experience a new type of workplace and it really opened my eyes to what other types of jobs are out there. This job is way harder than I originally thought it would be. My mentor is always busy, making phone calls, talking to people, and dealing with people walking in and out of the office. Overall, I enjoyed my internship and I enjoyed spending time with my mentor. Blog 6: Leadership skills 12/12/2011
I believe I am using thinking critically communicating powerfully the most at my workplace because I have to communicate with my mentor when I don't understand something to make sure I do it right the first time. I use thinking critically when filing papers, because I always look for the fastest and most effective way to file the papers, also so I don't mix them up with other tenant's files. I am using these leadership skills pretty well at my internship because my mentor is very busy, so I'm pretty much on my own and I have to figure out what to do. These leadership skills help me to complete my assignments for the day faster. My mentor uses the leadership collaborating productively the most because she has a lot to deal with at work already, so she collaborates with me in order to make her day go smoother. Blog 5: Progress on my WLE project. Part 1 11/10/2011
At my WLE I g0t in late because i had a doctor's Appt. but I told my Mentor. I came in around 11 and the day was already very busy. My mentor was talking on the phone a lot to her boss about certain tenants, I filed some papers, and i also delivered papers to all of the Town Homes. This took a while, plus it was also cold. We didn't really get a chance to discuss our project because the day was very busy and there was so much going on. We had to perform a move out so we had to go to the Town Home and take pictures of any damages that they could be liable for paying. I havn't accomplished anything so far on my project, but i plan to when my mentor gets the supplies and lets me know what she wants her office to look like. Blog 3: My Role Oct. 25th 10/27/2011
My Main responsibility is to keep all the paper organized so everything is easier for my mentor to access. Organization is the biggest key to this job. I'm not sure if I have a title, but if i did i'm guessing it would property manager assistant. I file papers everyday, i help clean up the office, i check the mail, and i sometimes deliver things to the residents. A regular day at my job would consist of me filing papers, talking to my mentor, people coming in and out of her office complaining about different things, like this lady complaining about her stove, the maintenance man coming in and out seeing whose town home he has to go to to see what he needs to fix. Sometimes we also go to my mentors house and eat lunch. The day is usually very busy, and then i go home. Blog #2:My Mentor: Tuesday oct 18th 10/14/2011
My mentor's name is Gina Merino and her job title is Property Manager at Townhomes on Gading. She is in charge of making sure the residents are happy, and providing homes to the people that qualify. She works the maintenence man to make sure everything is okay in the residents' townhomes. A typical day at the workplace is alot of people coming in and out of the office asking questions, complaining about what they want fixed, people paying rent, and just getting everything in order. Honestly, i forgot aboutthe interview so i dont know much about why my mentor chose this field, but I do know that she loves her job! Blog #1: My Workplace: Tuesday Oct 11th 10/14/2011
My workplace is at Townhomes at Gading and I work with the Property Manager there. it is a small business based on the size of the office, but as far as keeping up with the people that likve in the townhomes it is a big business. My workplace is located in Hayward and it is in an office in the townhomes. There is a manager and a maintenence guy that work there. My workplace serves the people that live in the townhomes. The strengths of my workplace are that it is very organized andmy mentor works with others to please the residents. The weakness of my workplace is that the office is a little small | AuthorWrite something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview. ArchivesDecember 2011 Categories |
